When this photo of 5-year-old Omran Daqnees sitting in an ambulance in Aleppo, shellshocked, covered in blood and dust from an air strike, it touched the world and showed the level of human suffering the war in Syria has caused.
When 6-year-old Alex from Scarsdale, New York, saw the photo, he was understandably shocked. He didn’t understand how such awful things could happen to a little boy just like himself. So he went straight to the top, writing a letter to US President Barack Obama explaining how Omran could just come and live with him.
President Obama shared Alex’s letter with the entire UN summit to show how we can all learn from the innocent, simple kindness of a 6-year-old kid.
“Listen to Alex, read his letter, and I think you’ll understand why I shared it with the world.”
“We should all be more like Alex. Imagine what the world would look like if we were. Imagine the suffering we could ease and the lives we could save,” said the President.
