Could this be the Donald Trump escape valve weve all been seeking? According to White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, Trumps very words have done the trick. The hirsute xenophobe is catching 14 kinds of hell from anyone with a pulse over his recent remarks on banning Muslims from entering the United States.
During todays White House press briefing, Earnest reminded everyone that the first thing a President does is take the oath of office, in which he/she promises to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
And the fact is, that what Donald Trump said yesterday disqualifies him from serving as President.
Donald Trump disqualified? Im good with that. But theres more.
While it is pretty unusual for a sitting administration to comment on an opposing partys prospective presidential nominee, Trumps comments certainly earned the notice and censure. Not content to confine his response to the Fuhrer-in-waiting, Earnest stated,
For Republican candidates for president to stand by their pledge to support Mr. Trump, that in and of itself is disqualifying. The question now is about the rest of the Republican Party and whether or not theyre going to be dragged into the dustbin of history with him. And right now the current trajectory is not very good.
Earnest talked about recently-elected House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who compared himself to white supremacist David Duke, without the baggage. Lame and offensive Republican attempt at humor, Scalise. Tell us more.
He also reminded us that while House Majority Leader Paul Ryan allegedly rebuked Trump for his anti-Muslim comments, Ryan also said TODAY that he would vote for Trump if he were the GOPs nominee.
Really? Does party loyalty extend that far? Sounds a lot like Trump is succeeding in whipping his partys loyal masses into a Fuhrer-like fervor.
Lets watch Earnests remarks:
Scared yet? We should be.
