2 Bears In Russia Were Rescued And Rushed To The Vet (You Won’t Believe Why)

Officials in Sochi, Russia, have a new problem to deal with in a city already plagued by issues from the 2014 Winter Olympics. A terrible animal rights issue is quickly gathering attention from all over the world.

Locals recently made a discovery behind a bar of two bears who were caged for more than 20 years. Found mistreated and addicted to alcohol, saying the bears were in bad shape would be the understatement of the year.

This was until public pressure and authorities forced the owner to relinquish control of the bears. However, as they lacked a new home to send them to, authorities were at a loss with what to do with the poor creatures. Fortunately, the Big Hearts Foundation stepped in and melted Sochi”s icy heart.

Big Hearts, a bear sanctuary in Romania, heard the story of these unfortunate bears and decided they could help.

Coordinating transportation from Russia is no easy feat and also quite expensive. Yet helping them to recover is not only in the best interest of the bears, but it”s the right thing to do after the lives they were forced to live.

Since the organization worked with bears addicted to alcohol before, they know they can cure these bears of their own dependency. “The people there have worked with dancing bears who had similar problems…it can be done,” said Anna Kogan, head of the Big Hearts Foundation.

Perhaps most shocking is that the owner of the bears, who also runs a restaurant in Sochi, defended keeping the bears. He argued that the beer was good for them because of the cold climate. I think we can all agree it”s a good thing those bears aren”t stuck in Russia anymore.
