A Passionate Gamer Made This Incredibly Awesome Ode to Nintendo.

Playing Nintendo as a kid was by far my favorite pastime. Saving the princess with Mario, shooting those pesky ducks, or running through dangerous Hyrule to find Zelda kept me up way past bedtime more times than I can remember. Sadly, as I grew up, I put away my games and begrudgingly played the “adult” game.

But when it came time for this anonymous gamer to do the same, he just couldn”t go through it with. Instead, he took his passion to a whole new level.

Starting with his favorite game, the gamer only known as “A” took a famous map of Zelda”s home world and…

…Made the ultimate miniature version.

...Made the ultimate miniature version.

With the excruciating detail of a ship in a bottle, he immaculately replicated everything from the game.

He left nothing unfinished.

He left nothing unfinished.

To get a sense of how small his creation is, he even gave us a scale.

To get a sense of how small his creation is, he even gave us a scale.

After showcasing Zelda”s hometown, he then made a faithful recreation of Bob-omb Battlefield, the very first level from Super Mario 64.

He again used pieces that must have taken days to make.

Can you imagine the passion needed to do this?!

Wow, I definitely need to unearth my Nintendo 64 and see how accurate this is!

For his final act, he also gave us a glimpse of the hometown of Pokemon”s favorite character, Ash.

Now he”s just showing off.

I don”t know about you, but I”m playing some video games when I get home tonight. Because as any good gamer will admit, I”ve never thrown out my old systems!

Top 10 herbs and spices for strengthening your immune system

Top 10 herbs and spices for strengthening your immune system

Of the many systems working within the human body, the immune system is an excellent example of complex efficiency. A network of participating cells and organs, it synchronizes its responses when defending the body from infection and disease.

In its element, it has the capacity to remember diseases it has encountered and produce secretions and cells that can effectively defend the body from another recurrence. Moreover, it has an advanced communication system that can trigger an immediate response to an emergency and act according to the severity of the infection. Activated immune cells start producing substances that allow it to recruit other immune cells and guide it to the site of attack while at the same time allowing it to control behavior and growth.

However, when the system malfunctions by causing an inappropriate response to substances or cells that are native to the body, it causes autoimmune diseases that will require the intervention of medication that will suppress the system’s response. What causes the system to malfunction, however, is still unclear. It is believed that exposure to some drugs or bacteria by people with susceptible genes cause this phenomenon.

When totally compromised the body is left defenseless, thus leaving it vulnerable to disease.

Helping the body’s defense system

The body’s defense system is only as dependable as the support it gets. Some people are just blessed with a good set of genes that ensure a strong immune system. For others who are not as lucky, they must work for immunity by observing proper nutrition, sufficient rest, a healthy active lifestyle, plenty of sun and reduced stress. Recent studies have shown that getting enough of these while cutting down on unhealthy habits and avoiding processed foods restores the immune system to peak performance.

Observing proper sanitation also plays a vital role in keeping the immune system working. It is recognized as the best preventive medicine and its actual practice can reduce outbreaks and diseases, translating to significant economic, environmental as well as social benefits.

Antibiotics and vaccination as remedies to assist the body’s defenses against disease have now been debunked by recent findings. Of late, antibiotics have been shown to attack beneficial bacteria in the stomach and suppress immune functions.

Foods that naturally boost the immune system

Foods that boost the body’s immune system can offer a lot of healthy options for those who wish to be more conscious in what they take in. To be sustained, the immune system heavily depends on the stomach for support. Malnourished individuals are more susceptible to disease as opposed to those who observe a healthy nutritious diet. Below are some of these examples:

1. Echinacea – Echinacea is a popular herb that has been identified to boost immunity. Combined with goldenseal, another herb, or enjoyed alone as tea, this member of the daisy family has been found to prevent and treat upper respiratory tract infections as well as the common cold.

2. Ginseng – This herb has many varieties. The most commonly studied variety is Panax ginseng, also known as Korean ginseng. Its main active component, ginsenosides, has been proven to have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Clinical research studies have demonstrated that it may improve immune and psychological functions as well as conditions related to diabetes.

3. Garlic – This spice has had a long history of medicinal value. In a recent study conducted by Dr. Ellen Tattelman, an assistant professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, New York, it was reconfirmed that garlic indeed has cardiovascular, anti-microbial and antineoplastic properties. It’s also a perfect spice to use when doing sauteed dishes.

4. Bell peppers– This pepper variety does not contain capsaicin, unlike its other feisty cousins. On the contrary, it is sweet and crunchy and contains the carotenoid lycopene which lowers the risk of cancer; beta-carotene which is converted to vitamin A; and Zeaxanthin, known to prevent macular degeneration and cataracts.

5. Ginger – This herb has been shown to reduce inflammation, cardiovascular conditions, blood clots and cholesterol. In a study, researchers found that animal subjects given ginger extracts had a significant reduction in cholesterol and blood clotting qualities. Moreover, it has been observed to inhibit the behavior of genes connected with inflammation.

6. Turmeric– This spice contains curcumin, which has notable antioxidant properties. It also has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and stomach soothing benefits. It reduces inflammation by stimulating the adrenal glands to increase the hormone that lessens inflammation. Animal studies on this herb have revealed that turmeric protects the liver from the adverse effects of alcohol and certain toxins. Turmeric also helps in digestive problems by stimulating bile flow.

7. Gingko Biloba– Gingko biloba’s leaves contain antioxidant compounds called bilobalides and ginkgolides that protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. Moreover, it has also been found to protect against radiation. In a study using animal subjects, ginkgo was demonstrated to have protected the test subjects against radiation poisoning. The latest research also suggests that extracts of this herb can neutralize oxidizing agents and free radicals caused in the cells due to radiation, thus preventing cell death. In fact, NaturalNews recently reported that ginkgo extracts reduce brain damage by up to 50 percent.

8. Ganoderma– This is a bitter mushroom also known as reishi. It has long been a popular herb in Chinese medicine attributed to assisting in longevity and health. Further studies on this oriental herb reveal that it strengthens immunity and combats cancer. Moreover, it has antioxidant properties and provides relief from urinary tract infections.

9. Astragalus – Also from China, this herb stimulates the immune system and aids in digestion and adrenal gland functions. It is also a diuretic. The effectiveness of this herb is due to polysaccharides, saponins and flavonoids. It has also been taken to combat the common cold and flu. Its digestive health benefits demonstrate the lowering of stomach acidity, resulting to an increase in the body’s metabolic rates and the promotion of waste elimination.

10. Cat’s claw – This herb from Peru is commonly used for stomach problems. Recently, however, it is becoming known as an exceptional immune response stimulator that helps the body to fight off infections and degenerative diseases. It contains oxindole alkaloids enhancing the immune system’s capacity to engulf and destroy pathogens.

From a practical perspective, taking in food which boosts the immune system while enjoying it at the same time can be a cost effective way to maintain health. Coupled with a healthy lifestyle, sufficient rest and a positive outlook in life, staying healthy does not have to cost an arm and a leg.

This Hooded Wooden Figure Is Beautiful And Mysterious.

Paul Kaptein is a different kind of artist. Hailing from Australian, Kaptein works with laminated woods to create unconventional (and at times unsettling) sculptures of people. For the most part his work focuses on the themes of death and impermanence.

Much of his work incorporates hoodies (hooded sweatshirts) in some way. They are often depicted as sad and empty. It is a deliberate contrast to the typical association of hoodies have with youth and vitality. His latest creation is an untitled piece depicting a hooded, cloaked figure with no face. The piece actually just won the 2014 Mandorla Art Award, one of Australia”s most significant art awards.

Not all of Kaptein”s work is that abstract. Sometimes he goes much further off the map. Here are a few more of his sculptures.

(H/T: Tumblr)

That skull one is pretty strangely intriguing. Don”t forget to share these sculptures on Facebook by clicking below.

10 Controversial Fringe Theories About Christianity And Judaism

As controversial as some fringe theories about religion are, theyre just too interesting to ignore. They give a new perspective on what would have just been another plain old orthodox doctrine, no matter how crazy that perspective may be.

10The Roman Empire Invented Jesus

01
Although weve already discussed the considerable evidence backing up the existence of Jesus, doubts as to whether He lived at all persist. In one of these Christ Myth theories, the controversial biblical academic Joseph Atwill claims that the Roman Empire created Jesus in the first century to quell Jewish insurrections.

According to Atwill, the Roman Empire knew that the Jews were waiting for their prophesied messiah to lead them in revolt against their rulers. Instead of waging another physical campaign, the Romans banked on psychological warfare, creating a religious system emphasizing the complete opposite of rebellion.

Instead of fighting, the new religion of Christianity urged its followers to obey the authorities and turn the other cheek. Atwill adds that various rulers and governments have exacted obedience from their people using Christianity.

9Black People Are Cursed Because Ham Sodomized Noah

02
Throughout history, black people have received all kinds of discrimination and oppression. One reason for this was a long-standing belief that they descended from Canaan, Noahs grandson, whom Noah cursed after the Flood.

The Bible says Noahs son Ham saw him drunk and naked inside his tent. Noah then cursed Hams son Canaan into serving the descendants of the two other sons, Shem and Japheth. The Bible leaves unclear, however, if Ham did anything else to deserve this curse. Some scholarly texts say Ham mocked his fathers drunkenness. Some say he slept with Noahs wife, his own mother. Others accuse Ham of castrating or sodomizing his father.

Whatever the case, the curse supposedly darkened Hams skin. This relegated his descendants into eternal servitude, a view supported by Christian, Jewish, and Muslim scholars of various eras.

8The Devil Had Sex With Eve

03
In one of the more bizarre interpretations of Genesis, the Serpent Seed Theory holds that the devil tricked Eve not just into eating fruit but into sleeping with him.

Eve tells God that the serpent beguiled her, and some say that this word meant not only deceived but also seduced. The serpents subsequent punishment by God (losing his legs and crawling on his belly for all of eternity) implied that he had previously had a human-like form.

The theory is widely believed by white supremacist groups such as those from the Christian Identity Movement. Members consider themselves Aryans, descendants of the good brother Abel. Conversely, they believe that every other race, especially the Jews, descended from evil brother Cain, the product of Satan and Eves unholy union.

7Witch Cults

04
While nothing could justify the senseless killings of thousands of women (and men) suspected to be witches, the Witch Cult Hypothesis holds that during those periods and even earlier, witches really did exist.

The hypothesis states that witches were the adherents of a prehistoric pagan fertility religion from Europe. The followers continued practicing their rituals even when Christianity became the dominant religion. The subsequent witch hunts were a campaign pitting two organized religions against each other.

The majority of scholars do not believe the theory, mainly because no actual evidence corroborates the existence of such cults. All that exists are the unreliable testimonies of those tortured into making such confessions.

6Jesus Used Marijuana To Work His Miracles

05
Different religions across the world have regularly used psychoactive plants or entheogens for their rituals. Jesus Himself may have availed of those plants to carry out his supposed miracles, according to one theory.

Proponents say that Jesuss anointing oil contained a high amount of keneh-bosem. This mysterious substance is said to be either calamus or (more controversially) cannabis. Jesus could have healed many people using the cannabiss medicinal properties. Anointing Himself and His disciples with the mixture could have also produced the otherworldly religious experiences that built Him up as a miraculous holy man.

In fairness to Jesus, He may have merely been adopting the pharmacological practices of the Jewish people. Several of His prominent religious predecessors have also been suspected of using entheogens. Moses, for example, is thought to have been high on psychedelic mushrooms when he went up on Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments.

5Buddhism Influenced Christianity

06
Similar to the that Jesus spent his lost years traveling in the Near East before studying India and Tibet, this theory says Buddhism and Christianity are so similar because monks preached Buddhist tenets to the natives of Palestine. Later on, these doctrines (which include peacefulness and non-violence) were incorporated by Jesus and His followers into their new religion.

Although Buddhist monks did contact the Western world centuries before the birth of Christ, reaching as far as Greece and parts of the Mediterranean, few scholars think Buddhism influenced Christianity, at least during the latters inception. The evidencewhich includes a biblical mention of the wheel of birthis too scant for such a conclusion. Accordingly, scholars hold that the two religions (aside from passing references made by their respective theologians) remained largely unknown to each other for another 1,500 years.

4Moses Was The Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten (Or His Priest)

07

The Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten tried unsuccessfully to institute a monotheistic religion during his reign. Some believe this religious maverick was actually the very same person as the Hebrew leader Moses.

According to believers, the two led lives too parallel to be coincidental. Both floated in a basket downstream to avoid being killed by a murderous pharaoh. Followers of Akhenaten supposedly referred to him as Mose, Meses, or Mosis (which translates as The Chosen One). The obscurity surrounding his death has also helped to fuel the theory; supposedly, Akhenaten led his followers out of Egypt after being threatened with a revolt by the priests.

In a variation on this theory, no less than Sigmund Freud believed that Moses was actually a priest under Akhenatens monotheistic religion. When the Egyptians rejected this religion after his death, followers including Moses fled Egypt to avoid persecution.

3The Jesuits Little Black Book For World Domination

08

Conspiracy nuts love secretive societies, and the Jesuits arent immune to the theories. Theyve even been accused of killing Lincoln. And if one document is to be believed, they also have a plan to dominate the world.

The document is titled Monita Secreta (Secret Instructions) and was written by expelled Jesuit Jerome Zahorowski in the early 1600s. It allegedly contains tips from the Jesuit leader Claudio Acquaviva to all his subordinates on how to increase the power of the Society. Methods include obtaining the wealth and secrets of their patrons, recruiting wealthy young men into their ranks, and persuading rich widows to hand over their estates.

Although the document has been dismissed as an imaginative fraud, that hasnt stopped people from believing that the Jesuits really are up to something. The anti-Jesuit Dr. Frederick Littledale dismisses questions of the documents authenticity, saying the authora former Jesuitclearly had access to the Societys inner workings.

2Todays Jews Did Not Descend From The Tribes Of Israel

09
In a controversial argument to undermine the Israeli claim to Palestine, Tel Aviv Universitys Shlomo Sand contends that the modern Jewish people cannot claim Palestine as their own. They never descended from the ancient Israelites in the first place.

Instead, Sand holds the theorywhich first popped up in the 19th centurythat todays Jews owe their ancestry to the Khazar Khaganate. This central European empire existed between the 7th and 10th centuries, and its people converted en masse to Judaism. After the empires disintegration, the people dispersed into different areas of Europe and converted the locals around them, creating a non-homogenous Jewish group composed of many races. Sand also claims that the Palestinians are the real descendants of the ancient Israelites, who converted to Islam at some point.

Evidence against Sands contention includes DNA tests showing that todays Jewish people possess common genes which can be traced back to the Levantine areaIsrael included.

1Everyone Is Descended From The Jews

10
One strange fringe theory claims that the British are the long-lost descendants of the Jewish people. The Two-House or Ephraimite Theory takes that view even further, claiming that todays non-Jewish Christians and even the whole of mankind are descended from the 10 lost tribes of Israel.

This belief is espoused by the fringes of Messianic Judaism, whose followers believe in Jesus as the Messiah. Its based on several biblical passages wherein God promises to make the descendants of the Jewish people as numerous as the sands of the sea. Accordingly, these 10 of Israels tribes dispersed after being defeated by the Assyrians to fulfill that promise.

It is believed that these descendants scattered even further and settled in different parts of the globe through the ages. They have yet to reunite with the other two tribes (Judah and Benjamin) that comprise todays Jewish people.

Marc V. is always open for a conversation, so do drop him a line sometime.
